January 10, 2004 – In a facility that officials say will defy expectations, the new Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center is now open. The new center is located at 14050 Heartside Place, just south of Valwood Parkway and adjacent to the now closed Don Showman Recreation Center.
Assistant Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Harting said the new facility is called a “Community Recreation Center” because of its multiple use capability and its mission to serve the entire community including members of all ages and abilities. “We have state-of-the-art recreation facilities, including gymnastics, weight and circuit-training, cardio machines, two gymnasiums and more,” he said. “But we also have community rooms with advanced audio/visual capabilities for meetings, events, receptions and the like.
